Location and communication: Salamanca is located in the southwestern region of the Autonomous Community of Castile and León, in the Central Mountain Range. The province is bordered to the north by Zamora and Valladolid , to the east by Ávila, to the south by Cáceres and to the west by Portugal . Its lands are part of the northern Plateau of Spain.

To come by road from Madrid you take the Nacional 501 , from Zamora and Cáceres the N-630 and from Portugal the Nacional 620 . By railroad, the city connects the capital with several national cities: Ávila, Zaragoza - Lerida - Barcelona , Bilbao , Burgos , San Sebastian , Madrid , Valladolid and Palencia , and internationally by the Lisbon - Hendaya train which has three stops in the province.

It has an airport: the Civil Airport of Matacán, located 14 kilometers from the capital that has regular flights with national destinations such as the Canary Islands, Málaga , Madrid and Barcelona in the summer. For regular and international flights, the nearest airport to Salamanca is the airport of Villanubla of Valladolid , with flights to Barcelona and four European cities: Paris , London , Brussels and Lisbon .

The Salamanca civil airport, Matacán, is located 14 kilometers from the capital of Salamanca along the Nacional 501 Salamanca-Madrid highway. During the summer (June-September) there are weekly regular flights to the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Barcelona , Málaga and Madrid . During the winter, regular flights don't exist.

The train station is located within the city of Salamanca, inside the Commercial Center of Vialia, which was recently renovated and has numerous services: cafeterias, restaurants, sport stores, gym, game rooms, hairdresser, parking for vehicles, tabacco store, kiosk, etc. It has a taxi stop in the same access entrance to the station.

Reservations at the window of the station: 8:00 am to 10:00 pm.

The Salamanca city buses company es Salamanca de Transportes S.A. The general timetables are between 7:15 am to 11:45 pm, work days, Saturdays and holidays. This may vary between 15 and 30 minutes. A night line exists every day of the week, between midnight and 3:00 am, with stops every 60 minutes.
Reaching Salamanca by road

Salamanca has a total of 1,629 kilometers of highways, of which 303,741 kms. are national highways. At the present time 86 kilometers of motorway have been built, along the N-620 (Burgos-Portugal). The section between Salamanca and Portugal is still under construction. Fourty eight of a total 117 kilometers are finished.
