This is the entrance way to the city: the Roman Bridge . It is part of the Vía de la Plata ( Route of Silver ), a roadway built by the Romans that connected August Emérita ( Merida ) to Astorga. It was built by the Romans to cross the river Tormes and reach the city of Salamanca . It was built in the first century, and is attributed to Trajan. It has 26 arches, although only 15 of them, which are on the right riverbank, are left over from the original Roman construction. From the Roman Bridge you can get a beautiful view of the city over the river Tormes.
