The city is itself a unique set in the world. As the European Capital of Culture in the year 2002 and World Heritage City , in few places can so much spectacularity and beauty be found. Walking through its streets in like entering a time machine, since Salamanca has evolved from the time of the Romans until the present time.
Inside the city we can find different styles and periods: the Roman Bridge associated with the origins of the city; the Cathedral Old representative of the Romanesque; the University, one of the oldest in Europe and an emblem of the city, whose facade is one of the most representative of the Gothic period; the palaces, almost all them belonging to the Renaissance: the Palacio of Monterrrey, the Salina or Fonseca; the Plaza Mayor, considered one of the jewels of the Baroque; Anaya Square, which houses the Palace of Anaya, the Hostelry and the New Cathedral, which all together, are one of the most beautiful places of the neoclassic period.
But Salamanca does not only stick to its historic dimension. The new buildings (the Conference Hall , Domus Artium 2002, Liceo Theater…), its countless squares, the streets, cafeterias, cinemas, theaters all provide Salamanca with thousands of corners that can become a favorable stage for filming.
The beauty of a city is often incompatible with the complexity of filming. Having a spectacular localization is valueless if we are not able to create film making infrastructure and solve the problems that it bears. Salamanca has enough technical infrastructure to accommodate any type of filming. The Salamanca Film Commission works to get all the filming permits at the lowest cost and in the shortest possible time. For example, filming on a public road only costs six euros. We also facilitate completely free technical assistance to producers.
The city is one of the best sets that can be found. But outside of the city are countless landscapes and towns throughout the province. The variety is such that can we find everything from the harshness and austerity of the Campo Charro to the impressive palette of colors of the Sierra de Francia. The whole county is full of historical towns through which time has not passed. Many have been chosen by numerous film directors for their shots (José Luis Cuerda, Vicente Aranda, Basilio Martín Patino, etc).
Salamanca and its province is a good place to film any time of the year.
